The various treatment options are tailored to suit each individual client, taking into account the context of your life, previous background (including medical and work history), family, relationships, personality, problem area, personal habits and ego-defenses, and your informed treatment preferences.

It is the mark of truly professional care that these diverse aspects are considered when your treatment plan is developed, in collaboration with you, and any other agreed party (personal or professional).

Common therapy modalities that may be used are:

• Interpersonal psychotherapy
• Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
• Pharmacological treatments (available from psychiatrist only)
• Schema Focused Therapy
• Psychodynamic therapy
• Solution-focused/Brief Therapy
• Humanistic Therapy
• Narrative Therapy
• Systemic Family therapy
• Clinical Hypnosis
• Focused psychological strategies
• Skills-based training and techniques (e.g. anger management, assertiveness, self-confidence, couples communication, progressive relaxation, thought-stopping, risk assessment, realistic thinking etc)

Other resources:

Check the links to other websites, especially DepressioNet.com.au.

In addition to our professional colleagues and related professionals we rely on a number of conceptual and material resources for your benefit.

Client Workbooks and recommended reading:

Structured protocols in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for several disorders (such as Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Depression, OCD etc.) can be purchased at reception. These workbooks are intended to compliment, not replace face-to-face psychological interventions.

Small homework exercises may be assigned for the period in between sessions. If you have a homework exercise assigned please try to complete it prior to your session and bring your work with you. There is no problem with forgetting your homework, it is for your benefit, not your treating professional’s benefit, and there is absolutely no obligation to have it completed. There are many other alternatives to CBT work, and it does not suit everyone.

Often your treating professional may recommend certain reading material to assist you with integrating your progress. Again, there is no obligation to complete this reading. More often than not our client’s feel vindicated and relieved to read that other’s have shared similar problems, and this information develops the conviction that change is possible.
